Sébastien Mouzon of Champagne Mouzon-Leroux produces our “Champagne of the Month” for April 2017. Based in Verzy on the Montagne de Reims, he has 7.5 hectares of vines under his control which he has worked Biodynamically since 2008. There are 50 plots in total which are planted with Pinot Noir (65%), Chardonnay (30%), Pinot Meunier (4%) and the remaining 1% is made up of Arbanne, Petite Meslier, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris.
Cuvée L'incandescent is a rosé de saignée macerated for 24 hours consisting of 100% Pinot Noir from the 2012 harvest. Indigenous yeasts are used for fermentation, half of which is vinified in fûts de chêne. Malolactic fermentation is carried out in order to limit the use of sulphur, the wine is not subjected to fining or filtration and it is afforded six months ageing on the fine lees. It is extra brut with a dosage of 3.55gl, disgorged in July 2015.
Appearance: Salmon pink with a lively mousse and some suspended sediment.
Nose: Pronounced intensity with primary aromas of violet, strawberry, raspberry, mango, orange peel, and blossom. Secondary aromas of fresh bread, toast, vanilla and smoke with tertiary aromas of almond and caramel.
Palate: Pronounced intensity with primary notes of violet, nectarine, orange peel, wild strawberry, raspberry, red cherry and mango. Secondary notes of toast, vanilla and cloves. There are tertiary notes of almond, hazelnut and caramel.
A fresh and vibrant rosé de saignée, bursting with flavour, ideal for drinking now but we suspect this has the ability to develop further with a little bottle age.
