We welcome in 2016 with our cuvée of the month for January - the newly released Millésime 2005 from Champagne Lelarge-Pugeot who are based in the village of Vrigny on the north-west section of the Montagne de Reims.

This lovely little domaine controls just over 8½ hectares of vineyards, mainly located around the village of Vrigny along with some plots in Gueux and Coulommes-la-Montagne.

Dominique Lelarge took over the running of this family business in 1985 whereupon he begun to move the estate towards more sustainable viticulture. The domaine is now certified biodynamic.

The 2005 vintage is born from three plots in Vrigny and Coulommes-la-Montagne: “Les Pierres”, “Les Maupas” and “Les Cumines Basses”. It consists of 35% Pinot Meunier, 33% Pinot Noir and 32% Chardonnay. Vinified in stainless steel tanks, it has a dosage of 3gl. Production totalled 962 bottles, ours being disgorged on 14th October 2014.

It is a beautiful deep golden colour with notes of treacle, frangipane and roasted figs. There are hints of almonds, hazelnuts, honey, caramel, dried fruits, hot cross buns plus a delicate taste of coffee. Following on from the lovely 2002, the 2005 is simply excellent.
