Our “Champagne of the Month” for June 2015 is the cuvée Les Empreintes by Champagne Laherte Frères from the village of Chavot-Courcourt on the Coteaux Sud d’Epernay.
For a more in-depth look at this fantastic domaine, check-out our “review” available in the drop-down menu.
This wine is born from two single plots “Les Rouges Maisons” which contains Pinot Noir planted in 1983 on clay soil with flint and “Les Chemins d’Epernay which contains Chardonnay and Chardonnay Muscaté – a natural hybrid of Chardonnay and Muscat, planted in 1957 on chalky soil.
Vinified in oak barriques following a natural fermentation it is given six months aging on the lees with regular batonnage. There is no malolatic fermentation and a dosage of 4gl. This wine is disgorged à la volée – by hand.
A beautiful wine with real poise and balance, it is earthy with a mineral influence, dried and exotic fruits evident, it lasts long in the mouth.
