Œnothèque: Our library of previous Champagnes of the Month

February 2014

Our cuvée of the month for February comes from the excellent Champagne Egly-Ouriet, located in the Grand Cru village of Ambonnay on the Montagne de Reims. They have around twelve hectares of vineyards, the majority of which lie in Ambonnay, mainly planted with Pinot Noir as well as some parcels in the Grand Cru villages of Bouzy and Verzenay.

Grand Cru V.P. Extra Brut: A non-vintage cuvée consisting of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay. The V.P. stands for Viellisement Prolongé which means prolonged ageing. It has six years in the bottle prior to disgorging and does not go through the filtration process. Thanks to the extra ageing process, this wine is powerful and intense with an almost earthy and mineral quality. Despite this it still manages to have elegance thanks to a very low dosage of less than 2 grams per litre.

It is an absolute beauty!
