Our cuvée of the month for September comes from the impressive producer Champagne Corbon, a Récoltant-Manipulant located in the Grand Cru village of Avize on the Côte des Blancs.
Brut d’Autrefois consists of 80% Chardonnay from Avize and 20% Pinot Noir, made using the perpetual blending method whereby the new harvests wine is added to the base wine from successive years. The wine is afforded a lengthy seven years resting on the lees and does not undergo fining or filtration which provides added complexity to this intensely rich cuvée. A glorious deep amber colour, it expresses hints of exotic preserved fruit, honey and spice; a truly decadent experience.
The bottle is capped with a Mytik cork to ensure it remains in perfect condition and is secured using the Ficelage method, the ancient skilled form of tying the cork to the bottle with string.
Price at source = €68.50
As well as tastings, Champagne Corbon offer various champagne tasting workshops and experiences courtesy of Agnès Corbon – in fluent English.
This wine was tasted again with Agnès on 20th September where we experimented by carafing the wine with stunning results. The carafe allowed the wine to mellow, encouraginging the Chardonnay to show even more. In our opinion, this method enhances the wine even further and is highly recommended.
