Œnothèque: Our library of previous Champagnes of the Month

November 2012

Our cuvée of the month for November comes from the impressive Champagne Guy Charlemagne from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. The multi-award winning Réserve Brut is a non-vintage Blanc de Blancs, containing 100% Chardonnay from the neighbouring Grand Cru villages of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oger; the average age of the vines being 35 years. The wine consists of two vintages, approximately 20% of which is vinified in small oak barrels. Malolatic fermentation is encouraged and the dosage is around 9-10 grams per litre.

This is a delicious, well priced non-vintage cuvée that offers an aroma of green apples, a fine and creamy mousse with a buttery finish and hints of brioche. As with many Champagnes, we find it is best served slightly under-chilled to release its full flavour and potential.

Price at source €19.10
